The Southern Arizona Hiking Club was founded in 1958 by a small group of people and has evolved into a nonprofit volunteer club of over 500 members.
Dedicated to the purpose of promoting hiking and related activities which further the appreciation, understanding, preservation and enjoyment of the land, its plants and wildlife, and all natural things and objects.
The club is committed to active, responsible and safe participation in the out-of-doors. Every month the club lists an average of 70 to 100 or more events led by volunteer members. New members are encouraged to become involved and to help with the organization of club activities.
The Monthly Program is held at 7:00 PM on the third Tuesday of each month currently at the Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation (TOMF) conference center, 3182 N. Swan Road and includes a narrated slide show on a wide variety of subjects ranging from local and international hiking to desert wildlife. (Note: Due to COVID-19, meetings have gone virtual and are held in members area.)
The Club's Board of Directors are volunteers elected from the membership. Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month and are open to all members and input is welcome.

Annual achievement and lifetime contribution awards are presented at the “Winter Cookout” held in January, Monthly Programs, and the Spring Picnic held in May. "Guide” patches are earned by successfully leading ten hikes and “Trail Keeper” patches after participating in ten trail maintenance events.
SAHC is an organization of volunteers who share their skills and love for the wilderness with one another, IT IS NOT A GUIDE SERVICE.
